How to Use HanautaMelody

Step 1: Set Tempo & Quantization

First, configure the basic settings for your melody.

• Metronome: Use the ▶ Play Metronome button to check the reference tempo. Adjust the speed with the BPM slider.
• Quantize: This sets the "granularity" of the analysis. It determines which musical grid your humming will snap to.
  • 1/4 (Simplest): Captures the melody in the broadest strokes. Ideal for very simple songs like nursery rhymes.
  • 1/8 (Coarse): A rough grid, good for slow, simple melodies.
  • 1/16 (Standard): The standard for pop and rock music. When in doubt, choose this.
  • 1/32 (Fine): Select this to accurately capture fast phrases and detailed rhythms.

Step 2: Record Your Melody

Once you're set, it's time to record.

• Press Start Recording. Recording will begin along with the metronome. Hum or sing your melody (e.g., with "la la la") in time with the metronome.
• When recording a melody, set the time signature of the song using Time Sig:.
• To obtain the most accurate melody analysis results possible, sing in the following manner:
  • 1. Sing clearly, close to the microphone.
  • 2. Minimize breathing sounds and other noise.
  • 3. Singing with simple vowels such as “ah” or “oo,” which have few overtones, tends to improve accuracy.
• When you're finished, press Stop & Generate Score. The analysis will start, and a score will be automatically generated.
• Add Chords: If checked, the app will automatically add chords that fit your melody.
  • Chord Detail: Simple analyzes up to 7th chords. Complex will also detect more advanced chords like 9ths and slash chords. However, due to the acoustic nature and technical characteristics of humming, accuracy cannot be expected to be very high.

Step 3: Edit, Playback, and Export

You can review and edit the generated score.

• Playback: Use the ▶ Play Score button to listen to the generated score.
• Playback Speed: If the playback feels a bit slow or fast, use this slider to adjust the speed to your liking.
• Transpose: The + / - buttons allow you to shift the key up or down by semitones.
• Delete a Note: If a note was recognized incorrectly, simply **double-click** it on the score to bring up a deletion confirmation.
• Export: Save your creation using the Export Score (XML) or Export MIDI buttons. You can use them on DAW or score edit softwares.
